Junior Green Gators 1: Introduction to Swim Team
Junior Green Gators 1: Introduction to Swim Team is designed to introduce youth to the competitive swimming environment and further develop their swimming skills. Participants will learn about competitive swimming verbiage, competition strokes and turns, and swim team practice sets. This program helps participants learn about team sportsmanship, and to gain a lifelong love for competitive swimming. Practices are held rain or shine in the outdoor Sports Pool.
Prerequisite 8-11 Years: minimum skills include the ability to safely and independently swim 50 yards (2 laps) using freestyle, and 50 yards using backstroke. Swimmers must complete each 50 without stopping.
Prerequisite 12-16 Years: minimum skills include the ability to safely and independently swim 50 yards (2 laps) of freestyle, 50 yards of backstroke, and 50 yards of breaststroke. Swimmers must complete each 50 without stopping.
*Junior Green Gators 1: Introduction to Swim Team is offerred year-round
Junior Green Gators 2: Endurance and Conditioning
Junior Green Gators 2: Endurance and Conditioning is a program for advanced swimmers designed to further build endurance and enhance participants' competitive swimming skills. Swimmers will work with coaches to improve their starts and turns and refine their strokes. Participants should know competitive swimming terminology and have knowledge of all 4 competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly). This program helps swimmers get in shape and prepare for a competition swim team. Practices are held rain or shine in the outdoor Sports Pool.
Prerequisite 8-11 Years: minimum skills include the ability to safely and independently swim 50 yards (2 laps) of freestyle, 50 yards of backstroke, 50 yards of breaststroke, and 25 yards (1 lap) of butterfly. Swimmers must complete each stroke's set without stopping.
Prerequisite 12-16 Years: minimum skills include the ability to safely and independently swim 100 yards (4 laps) of freestyle, 100 yards of backstroke, 50 yards (2 laps) of breaststroke, and 50 yards of butterfly. Swimmers must complete each stroke's set without stopping.
*Junior Green Gators 2: Endurance and Conditioning is ONLY offered in the Spring
Please note, this program is taught coaching-style from the pool deck, and swimmers must be water-independent and meet prerequisites for their age group to participate. All swimmers are required to have a concussion waiver on file for the year of participation. There are no refunds or make ups for missed practices.
